Transposing an octave
Moving a note, or a whole melody, up or down an octave from the treble clef to the bass clef and back.
An octave higher or lower
Transposing an octave moves every note eight letter names up or down, to the same letter. Grade 3 asks for this between the treble and bass clefs: for example a treble clef melody written an octave lower in the bass clef.
Sometimes a note is moved to the other clef at the same pitch, with no octave change at all. The note keeps its letter name and any sharp or flat; only its place changes.
