New Italian terms
Most performance directions are Italian. Grade 4 adds these:

| alla breve | with a minim beat (two minim beats in a bar) |
| amabile | amiable, pleasant |
| appassionato | with passion |
| assai | very |
| come prima | as before |
| comodo | at a comfortable speed |
| tempo comodo | at a comfortable speed |
| con brio | with vigour |
| deciso | with determination |
| larghetto | fairly slow, a little faster than largo |
| mesto | sad |
| misterioso | mysteriously |
| ritmico | rhythmically |
| rubato | with some freedom of time |
| tempo rubato | with some freedom of time |
| stringendo | gradually getting quicker, pressing on |
Dynamics are unchanged from Grade 3: from quietest to loudest pp, p, mp, mf, f, ff, with fp, sf and sfz.
