New terms for Grade 5
The Italian and German performance directions that are new at Grade 5, and the dynamics up to rinforzando.
How terms are asked
Performance directions tell the player how to play: the speed, the mood, the style and the loudness. Grade 5 asks the terms of every grade so far. This lesson teaches the new ones; the next lesson goes over Grades 1 to 4.
Most are Italian. Grade 4 added a few French terms, and Grade 5 adds six German ones.
Tip: many terms have English cousins. Morendo is like "mortal", dying away; sonoro like "sonorous". A cousin you know is a quick way in.
