Voices and vocal scores
How a vocal score sets out a choir: the four voices and their staves, the tenor's treble clef with an 8 under it, and how the words sit under the notes.
A vocal score
A vocal score gives each voice of a choir its own stave: soprano, alto, tenor and bass (SATB), top to bottom, with the words under each line. A short score puts the four voices on two staves instead, two to a stave, as in four-part writing.
Music for voices alone, with no instruments, is marked a cappella.
