Modulating in a melody

Music theory, Shaping a melody, 12 minutes

Where the change of key goes in eight bars, and which note announces it.

The note that changes the key

A key change is heard when a note arrives that the old key does not have. Going from a major key to its dominant, that note is the new key's leading note: a sharpened 4th of the old key (in F major going to C major, B natural). Going to the subdominant, it is a flattened 7th.
