About this game

Pixel Shooter is a side-on shooter with blocky soldiers, a big armoury and a long list of match types, from plain deathmatch to zombie infection and capture the flag. You run and jump with the keyboard, aim with the mouse and hold the button to fire. Matches are short, loud and messy in a good way.

Made by another developer and hosted on Brainlag.

How to play

Pick a mode, a character and a gun, then drop into a match. Move left and right with A and D, jump with W, aim by moving the mouse and hold the left mouse button to shoot. R reloads, and Space throws a grenade as long as you have some left.

The modes include individual deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag, a bomb mode where you hold E to plant or defuse, a zombie mode and a grenade mode. Some are about racking up kills, others about an objective or simply staying alive until the last second.

Matches pay out coins, and you also earn gems. Spend them to unlock new guns and characters, level up your guns, and buy permanent upgrades such as more health, faster movement, a higher critical hit chance and quicker bomb planting and defusing. Your rank climbs from Private through the Sergeant and officer ranks up to Marshal, and some heroes only unlock at a certain rank.

Tips

  • Level up one gun you like before buying lots of new ones. Early on, a well-upgraded gun beats a big collection of weak ones.
  • Reload with R in quiet moments instead of running dry in the middle of a fight.
  • Grenades are limited, and the game tells you when you've run out, so save them for groups or for enemies hiding behind cover.
  • In bomb mode you are exposed while holding E. Clear the area first, and consider the upgrades that shorten planting and defusing.
  • Check the rank screen after you level up. Rank rewards have to be claimed, and it is easy to leave them sitting there.

FAQ

Does it save my progress?

Yes. Coins, gems, unlocked guns and characters, and your upgrades are saved in this browser's local storage. Clearing site data or switching to another device starts you over.

Can I play on a phone or Chromebook?

It needs a keyboard and mouse, since you move with the keys and aim with the mouse, so it isn't suited to phones or tablets. A Chromebook works fine with a mouse or touchpad.

How do I get better guns faster?

Play full matches for coins, claim your rank rewards, and put your coins into levelling up one or two guns rather than spreading them thin across the whole armoury.
