About this game

Slow Roads is an endless, relaxing drive through landscapes that are generated as you go. There are no opponents, no timer and no way to lose: just a road that never ends, scenery that keeps changing and the hum of the engine. It's the rare driving game that's about unwinding rather than winning.

Made by another developer and hosted on Brainlag.

How to play

Start driving and the world builds itself ahead of you: hills, forests, cliffs and bends, with seasons and weather that change from scene to scene. Press Q and E to move between scenes, which include off-world landscapes like Mars and Venus as well as Earth.

Drive however you like. Stay on the road and enjoy the view, hold Shift for a boost, tap Space for the handbrake, or press F to switch on autodrive and let the car steer itself while you watch. Press C to cycle camera views, including an interior view from the driver's seat.

Behind the scenes the game keeps a few personal records, such as Furthest Single Journey, Furthest On-Road, Fastest Any Mile and Fastest First Five Miles, and it remembers how far you've travelled on each road seed.

Tips

  • For a screensaver-style drive while you rest your eyes, turn on autodrive with F and hide the interface with U.
  • Press H to switch the headlights on when a scene turns dark or foggy.
  • If the car gets stuck or wedged against a barrier, press R to reset it back onto the road.
  • The settings let you switch between front-, rear- and all-wheel drive, adjust steering speed and sensitivity, and even turn off the roadside barriers.
  • If the frame rate drops badly, check that hardware acceleration is enabled in your browser; the game warns you when it detects very low FPS.

FAQ

Does it save my progress?

Yes. Your settings, current seed and distance progress are stored in your browser's local storage, so a reload puts you back on the same road. It's kept in this browser only.

Can I play on a phone or Chromebook?

Not on a phone: the game itself says it isn't properly supported on mobile devices yet. Play on a computer or a Chromebook with a keyboard instead.

Is there an end?

No. The road is generated endlessly, so you can keep driving for as long as you like. The only goals are the ones you set yourself, like beating your longest journey.
