About this game

This is Klondike, the classic solitaire: seven columns, a stock pile and four foundations to build from ace to king. It is calm, it rewards planning, and one deal fits nicely into a short break between study sessions.

Made by another developer and hosted on Brainlag.

How to play

Before you start, choose DRAW 1 CARD or DRAW 3 CARDS. Draw 1 turns the stock one card at a time and is the friendlier version; Draw 3 turns three and only the top one is playable. Your goal is to move all 52 cards onto the four foundations, one per suit, from ace up to king.

In the columns you build downward in alternating colours, a red 6 on a black 7 for example, and you can move a run of face-up cards together. Only a king can go into an empty column. Moving a card that uncovers a face-down card turns it over. Once every card is face up and the stock and waste are empty, the game finishes the deal for you.

You score 10 points per card sent to a foundation, and 5 for each card moved from the waste to a column or face-down card turned over. Taking a card back off a foundation costs 15, and a won deal adds a time bonus.

Tips

  • Turn over face-down cards early. Each one is worth points and every hidden card is a card you can't plan around, so prefer moves that free the biggest column first.
  • Don't empty a column unless you have a king ready for it. An empty column can only take a king, so clearing one with no king to move just wastes the space.
  • Be careful about sending low cards up too quickly. A black 4 on its foundation might be the only place a red 3 could have gone in a column, and taking it back down costs 15 points.
  • Use Undo to test an idea, like which of two red 9s to move, then take it back if it leads nowhere. It is the quickest way to learn how a deal works.

FAQ

Does it save my best score?

Yes. Your best score is saved in this browser, separately for Draw 1 and Draw 3. A game in progress isn't kept if you leave the page, and clearing site data or using another device resets the best scores.

Can I play on a phone or Chromebook?

Yes. On phones and tablets you drag cards with your finger and double-tap to send them to a foundation, and a Chromebook works with a mouse or touchpad.

Can every deal be won?

No. Some deals can't be solved, especially in Draw 3. Restart Game replays the same deal and New Game deals a fresh one.
