About this game

X Trench Run puts you in a starfighter racing down a narrow trench, blasting laser gates and slipping past walls at speed. It is a 3D arcade flyer with a classic feel: keep moving, keep shooting, and last long enough to meet the boss.

How to play

Your ship flies forward on its own. Move it around the trench with WASD or the arrow keys, and fire with Space or a mouse click. Walls and obstacles fill the trench, and laser gates block the way. As the in-game hint says, shoot the pillar to destroy the laser gate, then fly through.

At points in the run a BOSS FIGHT! warning appears and a boss starts shooting at you. Keep dodging its shots while you pour fire into it.

Three power-ups float in the trench. Force Shield wraps your ship in a protective bubble, Speed Down slows the run so you have more time to react, and Wall Destroyer lets you break through walls. Your score climbs as you go, the game keeps your best, and you get a NEW BEST SCORE! message when you beat it.

Tips

  • Shoot gate pillars as soon as you see them. The gate stays up until the pillar is gone, and a late shot leaves you no room to react.
  • Hold fire for long stretches. You can keep Space held down, so there is no need to tap for every shot.
  • Stay near the middle of the trench between obstacles so you can move either way when the next wall appears.
  • In boss fights, keep moving between bursts. A ship that sits still is exactly where the next shot is aimed.
  • Grab Speed Down when the trench gets busy. It buys you time in the sections where most runs end.
  • Use the first seconds of each run to get a feel for how quickly the ship moves up, down and sideways. The trench fills up fast, and late corrections are what end most runs.

Does it save my progress?

Your best score is saved in this browser's local storage. Clearing site data or switching to another device resets it.

Can I play on a phone or Chromebook?

Yes. On a phone or tablet you get an on-screen pad for movement and a fire button. On a Chromebook, use WASD or the arrow keys and Space to fire.

How do I get past the laser gates?

Shoot the pillar. The in-game hint sums it up: shoot the pillar to destroy the laser gate, then fly through the opening.
