Terms of use
Last updated: 5 October 2026
The short version
- Brainlag is free to use. An account is optional.
- Be kind, do not break the site, and do not copy our content to other websites.
- What you make in the tools is yours.
- Calculators, simulations and guides help you learn. Check important answers with your teacher, and do not rely on them for exams or for safety.
- Paid plans are for adults, or a parent or guardian paying. Subscriptions renew until you cancel, and you can cancel at any time from your account.
- You have 14 days to change your mind about a subscription. For gift codes and printable packs that you ask to receive straight away, that right ends once they are ready.
- None of this takes away your rights under consumer law.
The rest of this page gives the full terms.
About these terms
Brainlag (brainlag.space and code.brainlag.space) is run by its owner, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. Email: [email protected]. If you need our postal address, for example to send a formal notice, email us and we will send it to you.
These terms apply when you use brainlag.space or Brainlag Code (code.brainlag.space), and when you buy anything from us. Brainlag Code has a few extra terms of its own at code.brainlag.space/terms. Our privacy notice explains how we use personal data. By using Brainlag you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the sites.
Questions: [email protected]. Help with an account, a payment or Brainlag Code: [email protected].
Using Brainlag
Brainlag is made for students. Anyone can use the study tools, guides, games and free lessons without an account and without paying.
To create an account you must be 13 or over. If you are under 18, check that your parent or guardian is happy for you to use Brainlag. Keep your password to yourself, and tell us at [email protected] if you think someone else has used your account. One account is for one person.
We keep improving Brainlag, so tools, games and lessons can change, move or be removed. We will try to give notice before removing something you pay for, and see Ending and changes for what happens then.
Rules for using Brainlag
Please do not:
- break the law, or use Brainlag to bully, threaten or harm anyone;
- type anything offensive, hateful or sexual into shared features such as Oddword rooms or class names;
- try to get into other people's accounts, our server or parts of the site that are not public;
- attack, overload or scrape the sites, or get around limits, locks or paid features;
- copy our lessons, guides, printables or paid content to other websites or sell them;
- share your login or a paid plan with other people;
- use Brainlag Code to write or share harmful code, such as malware or fake login pages.
If someone breaks these rules we may remove content, block access or close an account. If that happens to an account with a paid plan, see Ending and changes.
What you make
Your notes, flashcards, plans, essays and code belong to you. You give us permission to store them, sync them between your devices and show them to people you choose to share with, only so we can run the service. We do not use them for anything else and we claim no ownership.
Anything you share with others, such as a playground link or a word list in Oddword, can be seen by the people you share it with. Do not share anything private.
If you see content on Brainlag that breaks these rules or someone's rights, tell us at [email protected] and we will look at it quickly.
Our content and how you may use it
The Brainlag sites, tools, guides, lessons, exercises, printables, the Noodle mascot and the Brainlag name belong to Brainlag or to the people who license them to us. You may use them for your own learning and for teaching. Some parts use open-source software or other licensed material; the credits pages and licence files list them and their licences.
Printables. You may print and copy pages you make with the printables generator for your own use and for use in a class you teach, including handing copies to your students. Please do not sell them or post the files on other websites.
Paid printable packs. A pack is licensed to the person who bought it. You may print it as often as you like for yourself and, if you are a teacher, copy it for students in your own classes. Please do not share the files with other people or post them online. The licence does not end when a subscription ends.
Lessons. You may use the code examples from Brainlag Code lessons in your own programs. Please do not copy whole lessons, exercises or solutions to other websites.
Games from other developers
Most games on Brainlag were made by other developers. Their names, pictures and trademarks belong to their owners, and we do not claim to be connected with them. Online games connect to servers run by their developers, and their own rules apply there. Each game page has a content label, which is our own judgement and not an official age rating. If you think a game should not be here, or you own a game and want it removed, email [email protected].
Calculators, simulations and guides
Brainlag's calculators, solvers, simulations, formula sheets, periodic table, guides and lessons are learning aids. We work hard to make them correct, but mistakes can happen and they do not replace your teacher, your textbook or your exam board's materials. Always check answers that matter. Do not rely on them for exams, coursework that will be marked, medical decisions, or anything where a mistake could hurt someone or damage something, such as real electrical circuits or chemicals.
Exam boards and trademarks
We mention exam boards and their specifications, such as AQA, Pearson Edexcel and OCR, only to say which topics our material covers. Brainlag is not connected with, approved by or endorsed by any exam board. All trademarks belong to their owners.
Paid plans and purchases
Paid plans may not be on sale yet. If you cannot see a buy button, they are not. These terms apply from the moment they are.
What we sell:
- Brainlag Plus: a monthly or yearly subscription. It unlocks the full Brainlag Code course, every printable pack and printables without the footer line, and removes ads.
- Supporter: a monthly or yearly subscription. It removes ads and lets you turn off the printables footer line, and it helps keep Brainlag going. We never show supporters' names in public.
- Gift codes: 3 or 12 months of Brainlag Plus for one payment. A gift code does not renew and never expires. The person who receives it enters it in their own account.
- Printable packs: one payment for one pack.
- Classroom licences: one payment for a year of student seats for a teacher's classes. A licence does not renew.
Who can buy. You must be 18 or over, or a parent or guardian paying for your child. A teacher can buy a classroom licence for their classes. If you are under 18, ask a parent or guardian to buy a gift code for your account.
Prices. The price, and for subscriptions how often it renews, is shown before you pay, in pounds (GBP), euros (EUR) or US dollars (USD). Prices include VAT or other sales tax where it applies; any tax is worked out at checkout.
Paying. Payments are taken by Stripe. Your contract with us starts when Stripe confirms the payment. You will get a confirmation by email.
Subscriptions
A subscription starts straight away and renews automatically at the end of each month or year, at the price you agreed, until you cancel. Before a yearly subscription renews, we will email you to remind you.
Cancelling. You can cancel at any time from your account page (Manage billing). Your plan then stops renewing and keeps working until the end of the period you have paid for. After that your account goes back to free. Your data and progress are kept.
Failed payments. If a renewal payment fails, Stripe tries again over the next few days and your plan keeps working for 7 days while it does. If payment still fails, the subscription ends.
Price changes. We may change prices. A new price never applies to a period you have already paid for, and we will email subscribers at least 30 days before a new price applies to them, so they can cancel first.
Deleting your account. We cannot delete an account while a subscription on it is still set to renew. Cancel it first, then delete the account.
Your right to cancel and refunds
UK consumer law (the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013), and the same rules in the European Union, give you 14 days to cancel most online purchases. This is how it works for what we sell.
Subscriptions and classroom licences. You can cancel within 14 days of your first payment. Because you asked for the plan to start straight away, we refund what you paid minus a fair amount for the days you had it. We do the same if you cancel within 14 days after a yearly subscription renews.
Gift codes and printable packs. These are digital content you can use straight away. At checkout you ask us to supply them immediately and agree that you lose the right to cancel once the code or download is ready. We confirm this in your email. If we refund a gift code before it has been used, the code stops working. If we refund it after it has been used, the Plus time it gave ends.
If something is wrong. If anything you bought does not work or is not as described, you have rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (or your country's consumer law) to a repair, a replacement or a refund. Email [email protected] and we will put it right.
How to cancel. Use Manage billing on your account page, or email [email protected] with your account email and what you want to cancel. You can use the form below, but you do not have to. Refunds go back to the card or account you paid with, within 14 days of us agreeing the refund.
To: Brainlag, [email protected]
I hereby give notice that I cancel my contract for the supply of the following: [what you bought]
Ordered on: [date]
Name: [your name]
Account email: [email]
Date: [today's date]
Classroom licences
A teacher with a classroom licence can create classes with a join code. Each student who joins uses one seat and gets the full Brainlag Code course and no ads while they are in the class. The teacher sees each student's chosen name and Brainlag Code progress, never their email address.
If you are a teacher, you agree to: give join codes only to your own students; not ask students to share anything beyond what Brainlag shows; follow your school's rules on online services; and, if your school is responsible for the data, make sure the school has a data processing agreement with us. Schools can ask for one at [email protected]. Invoices for schools are also available from [email protected].
Ending and changes
You can stop using Brainlag at any time and delete your account from the account page.
We may suspend or close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms. If we close an account with a paid plan for that reason, we will tell you why. If we stop offering a paid plan or close an account without it being your fault, we will refund the part of your payment for time you can no longer use.
Our responsibility to you
We provide Brainlag with reasonable care and skill. If we break these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that was a foreseeable result. We are not responsible for loss that was not foreseeable, for problems caused by your device or connection, or, since Brainlag is for personal use, for business losses.
The free parts of Brainlag are provided as they are. We cannot promise the sites will always be available or free of errors.
Nothing in these terms limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited by law, including your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. If you live in the European Union, you also keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country.
Complaints and disputes
If something goes wrong, please email [email protected] first. We will reply within 14 days and try to sort it out.
If we cannot agree, we will tell you about an alternative dispute resolution service and whether we will use it. You can also go to court. If you live in the European Union, the European Consumer Centres network can help with cross-border problems. The European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform closed in July 2025, so we do not link to it.
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear disputes. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you can also bring a claim in your local courts, and if you live in the European Union you can bring a claim in the courts of your country and keep your country's mandatory consumer protections.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms, for example when we add a feature or the law changes. The date at the top shows the latest version. If a change affects a paid plan you have, we will email you before it applies, and you can cancel if you do not agree.
Other legal points
If a court decides that part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. Only you and we have rights under these terms. We may transfer our rights and obligations to another business that takes over Brainlag, and we will tell you if that happens; it will not reduce your rights.
