Notes outside the chord
The four notes outside the chord a Grade 6 extract decorates its melody with, passing note, auxiliary note, appoggiatura and anticipation, and a three-question test that tells them apart.
First, is it really outside the chord?
A note marked with a star, or asked about by its bar, is a note that does not belong to the chord sounding with it. Before naming it, collect the chord's notes from every stave and check: if the starred note is one of them, read the question again.
