Writing a melody for a voice to sing words: stressed syllables on strong beats, and one note to each syllable.

Speak the words first

Before writing a note, say the words aloud and listen for the syllables you lean on. In "GAR-den" the first syllable is stressed; in "a-WAY" the second is.
