Reading a longer extract
Questions 4 and 5 print a longer extract with everything a performer reads: tempo, dynamics, phrase marks, ornaments and playing directions. What each one means, and a routine for working through the questions.
What questions 4 and 5 print
Questions 4 and 5 print a longer extract, usually eight bars or more, the way a performer would see it. As well as the notes there are words and signs: a tempo term over the first bar, dynamics under the notes, curved phrase marks, an ornament or two and, in music for strings, directions telling the players how to play. Bar numbers help you find your way.
The questions mix harmony (chords, cadences, intervals) with these words and signs. Some answers are chosen; some you type in a few words.
